Send 3 Thank-You Notes

by ACM
Dec 02, 2024

Just a quick hello during this holiday weekend to recommend something for your own well-being.

If you can, reserve 10 minutes this week to write 3 thank you notes.

Email? Great! Handwritten? Lovely! Just do it!

Think of someone who made your year better. Send them a note now, before the true madness of the winter holidays sets in.

When you do this, you reconnect with the good in the world.

You could also reconnect with a colleague, friend, or leader who makes it possible for you to do what you do every single day.

Networking isn’t about making 500 industry friends just to ask them for a job one day. Ick.

Networking shouldn’t really be a verb at all!

Yes, we are all part of networks, but just like with your personal life, a professional life is so much richer when you have maintained your relationships.

These are the people you can consult with, laugh with, collaborate with, solve problems together, and yes, sometimes, swap opportunities.

I hope this reframe gives you a little nudge in the direction of expressing your gratitude for someone.

Thank a peer, then thank someone who doesn’t have an impact on your career at all, and finally, thank someone you aspire to be like or admire.

If you’ve migrated over with me from the Community Mental Health Survival Guide, I’m thanking you this year by giving you the Burnout Prevention mini-workbook for free. It’s in your library right now.

Didn’t see it?

Make sure you created your login and are signed in.

^You’ll need this email^ if you haven’t logged on yet. Make sure to check your spam folder.

Still can’t find it? email [email protected] and I’ll send it to you directly.

Thank you for the work you do.

-Andreana

"The Working Phase Perspective" (Main Essay)   There's no essay this week, Working Phase (and I, Andreana, the human behind it) is in product development mode!  If you were busy this month (hahaha she laugh/cries in the language of all  2025 therapists...) Catch up with these: Is It Time to Screen for AI Use in Client Safety Planning?  Is it OK to Eat in Session?     Supporter Connect and L...
Is it time to screen for AI use in client safety planning?
Being realistic about AI use means acknowledging a few things:  Chat-based AI is not going anywhere. The promises of AI (like any new technology) are a little overhyped. Until we have developed tech literacy about this new tool, humans will use the tech in both beautiful and terrible ways.  The therapy profession, and therapists in it, will do well to figure out what the professional and pe...
The Free, Low-Tech, #1 Step to Fixing Your Focus at Work
I tell my clients who are struggling with concentration, intense stress, or with completing tasks on time to do the following: Keep a notebook and pen to the side of your computer during your focused work sessions (like during a pomodoro or during important meetings or writing sessions). Use that notebook to jot down the random, distracting thoughts you have while you are trying to work on the ...
