Therapists Helping Therapists.
This isn't the email I planned to send, and I've written and deleted this email 5 times.
Unlike our earthquakes, LA fires are preventable.
The people who can actually do something about the cause were, yet again, asleep (and making money in their sleep) at the wheel.
Oh, yes, we are treating climate change as fact in this newsletter.
Because we, and our clients, haven't been able to pretend the disasters away.
I literally cannot remember the last time it rained here. Last January, it rained almost every day. The January before that, we had a literal hurricane, again, IN CALIFORNIA.
This year? Fire season. In January.
How many more once-in-a-lifetime disasters are we each expected to sit through?
And therapists don't just sit through it once. We sit through it dozens of times, from multiple angles, just to help our clients recover.
Anyway, we'll be back to our regular programming next week, unless something else happens. But for now:
If you're in LA, and in need, here are resources for you.
Mental Health: https://laist.com/news/health/devastating-fires-mental-health-how-to-seek-help
Practical Assistance: https://abc7.com/post/socal-wildfires-where-palisades-eaton-hurst-sunset-fire-victims-can-get-help/15780705/
If you're not in LA, or have room to help, here are resources for you.

You can also open pro bono slots or groups within your counseling practice, if you are trauma-informed and can see Californians.
Always assess your own needs before you put on the superhero cape for others, ok?
I and the people I love most are safe (Our family has ties to Altadena, but we're all miles away from there now). So overall, I am moving with gratitude.
You already know that life has meaning beyond possessions and real estate.
That said, understand your local risk factors, review your emergency plans, and look up your local mutual aid networks.
Not everyone who needs a miracle gets one, but we can at least be there for each other.
